Norman Krieger
Classics 5: season finale

Saturday, May 5, 2012 ~ 8 pm
Christopher Cohan Center, San Luis Obispo

Norman Krieger, Piano

MOZART / Overture to "La Clemenza di Tito", K.621
BEETHOVEN / Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor, Op.37
BRAHMS / Symphony No.2 in D Major

What better way to end our Classics season than with two of the "Three B's" AND Mozart? It's a recipe for a classical music lover's FEAST! We begin with Mozart's delightful Overture to "La Clemenza di Tito." Then, Beethoven's third piano concerto will be beautifully brought to life by acclaimed pianist Norman Krieger. Finally, the piece de resistance: Brahms' Symphony No.2. Brahms joked mischievously that his second symphony was "so melancholy that you will not be able to bear it" but you'll find that his bright cheerfulness shines through in his amazing second symphony, as we end our season on a high note!

BEETHOVEN / Overture to "Fidelio"

SIBELIUS / Symphony No.5 in E-flat Major

Jean Sibelius was commissioned by the Finnish government to write his fifth symphony in honor of his own 50th birthday, which had been declared a national holiday. Talk about pressure! Overcoming his own mid-life crisis, Sibelius created one of the most beautiful works in the repertoire. The overture to Beethoven's only opera and Max Bruch's most famous work, performed by one of our favorite violinists, complete this masterful program.
