Bringing classical music to the classroom...
and the classroom to the concert hall!

Want to know how to bring Everyday Etudes to your school?

Everyday Etudes is not just one program - it is an abundant outpouring of SLO Symphony Music Education resources upon a school, sewn together by the thread of daily listening.

Everyday Etudes costs $10,000 for the first year, and $5,000 every year thereafter.  This covers everything from:

  • daily listening materials
  • to Children's Concert tickets
  • to real-time teacher support
  • to the Music Van
    ...AND MUCH, MUCH MORE!

The keys to bringing Everyday Etudes to your school are your principal and your PTA.  Below are some ideas on how to rally the troops and make Everyday Etudes a reality for your school.

IF YOU ARE A TEACHER:

1) Talk to your principal.  Tell him or her about the simplicity of the daily listening time (the principal will be concerned about imposing anything on teachers who already work extremely hard - as you know!).  Emphasize how Everyday Etudes is a schoolwide function that builds a bridge between students, classes, and grade levels.

2) Talk to your fellow teachers.  Show your colleagues the Everyday Etudes film, which features teachers from the first Everyday Etudes school who share why they like it and what it does for their classrooms.

3) Talk to your superintendent.  Ask them to support Everyday Etudes in their district, both philosophically and financially.

IF YOU ARE A PARENT:

1) Talk to your child's principal.  Show him or her the brief Everyday Etudes film and this website to build support for partnering with the Symphony.  Use information from this website ("What Most People Don't Know About Music Education") to motivate them.  Remember to think outside your own child's needs and address the issue as it relates to all children - Everyday Etudes is for the entire school!

2) Talk to other parents.  Forward the film to your PTA, or put Everyday Etudes on the next PTA meeting agenda.  Discuss fundraising ideas to make Everyday Etudes a reality at your school.

3) Talk to your superintendent.  Ask them to support Everyday Etudes in their district, both philosophically and financially.

IF YOU ARE A COMMUNITY MEMBER:

1) Write a letter to your local superintendent.  Use this pre-formatted letter and list of school districts and superintendents to let your superintendent know that you value music in a child's complete education.  Encourage them to support Everyday Etudes in their district, both philosophically and financially. Use information from this website ("What Most People Don't Know About Music Education") to inspire them.
