San Luis Obispo Symphony
Music Education is dedicated to introducing and advancing chamber and symphonic music by providing musical programs for people of all ages across San Luis Obispo County.

Join us on an adventure!

Have you noticed the way children respond to music?  Even the most bashful child will make a loud “wah-wah” on the trombone at the Symphony’s Musical Petting Zoo, and our Children’s Concerts are regularly sold-out far in advance to kids with an appetite for musical adventure.  Music brings us together, tells us stories, and teaches us how to listen. We hope that teachers, parents, kids – EVERYONE! – will join the San Luis Obispo Symphony on a journey of sound and harmony this year.  For a complete list of our Music Education programs, use the sidebar to the right.

For Classroom Teachers…

Symphony Music Education exists for you and your class; please feel free to take advantage of it!  For instance,

• The Symphony Music Van travels to 3rd grade classrooms all over SLO County, demonstrates the families of instruments in the orchestra and then gives your students a chance to try them out

• The Cuarteto de las Misiones perform music that was originally played in the California Missions and presents a program that will enrich any 4th grade study on mission life in the 18th and early 19th centuries

And For Parents…

Does your child love to listen to music, or show an interest in making their own?  Want to know how to nurture that growing curiosity?  The Symphony makes it easy!  Drop in on a No Ties Allowed! FREE Dress Rehearsal at the Performing Arts Center for a fun afternoon of listening to your local orchestra play live.  Or enroll them in one of the Prelude Summer Music Camps for a week of intensive instruction on the violin or cello.
