» Summer String Workshop

  Camp Ocean Pines, Cambria California
Camp Ocean Pines
Summer String Workshop
August 17-21, 2009

A great opportunity for the serious music student to spend five days this summer having fun and learning their craft in a beautiful location --- Camp Ocean Pines in Cambria, California.

Maestro Michael Nowak and the San Luis Obispo Symphony are very pleased and proud to launch this new component to an already extensive music education program.  A limited number of young artists, ages 12-18, will be selected to join a distinguished faculty for a week of intensive string study combined with recreational and social activities in a gorgeous coastal location.  The five-day, four-night camp will combine chamber music instruction with fun summer activities, including nature hikes, campfires, films and evening concerts presented by the faculty.

Sample Schedule

The Summer String Workshop is designed for young musicians (approximately age 12-18) who are serious about their art and who wish to improve their skills, increase their knowledge of music and work with some of the best in business. A rough schedule of the five-day camp is as follows:

  • Morning:    Full string orchestra rehearsals, chamber groups, sectionals
  • Afternoon:    Outdoor activities, individual practice time and private lessons
  • Evening:    Social activities (films, evening concerts, dances, etc.)

Students will work hard, play hard and come away from the experience with new friendships, new skills and a renewed passion for playing their instrument.
